About us

Next Step

Partner with us. One thing that is central to our church DNA is that we cannot do this alone. To make ministry happen in Galveston, it takes all of us. Click the buttonbelow if you'd like to discover ways to get involved.

Next steps

Big Step

Covenant with us. Is God calling you to make Moody your church? We believe membership is a holy commitment to which God calls us. We expect all members to uphold us with their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. You can do so by clicking below or turning in a Connect Card (found in our church bulletin) after services. We'd love to talk to you a bit more about what that means.

Become a member

Is god calling you to join this congregation?

In each worship service at Moody Methodist, everyone is invited to live their life in Christian discipleship and to become a member of the congregation.
What does that mean?

It means that when a person becomes a member, they join the whole church in agreeing to walk as Jesus walked, and to practice their faith together along the Way. If any person makes the choice to live this way, the whole church will receive that person as a fellow Christian disciple of Jesus Christ.

Membership simply means that individuals make a commitment to participate together in the ministry of the church. Every person who is a member has been baptized and has agreed to support the church with their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

We receive members into our congregation in the following ways:

Profession of faith
plus-icon

If a person presently has no church home, they will be baptized (if they had not already been baptized) and received into membership. We believe age is not a factor concerning the sacrament of Holy Baptism. No one is too young or too old to receive God's grace.

Transfer of letter from another united methodist church

If a person is a current member of another United Methodist Church, they may transfer membership to Moody Methodist Church.

Transfer of Membership from Another Christian Church Denomination

If a person is presently a member of another Christian church, they may transfer membership to Moody Methodist Church. Baptism in another church denomination is recognized as fully valid.

affiliate membership

If a person is presently a member of another United Methodist Church and desires to retain membership in that congregation, they can become an affiliate member of this congregation and be entitled to vote in the church membership.

Associate membership

If a person is presently a member of another Christian church or denomination and desires to retain that membership, they can become an associate member and be a non-voting member of the congregation.

Our services

Informal Worship

sundays 8:30 am
What is informal worship

Informal Worship draws on the experience of the American church as it spread during the 1800s. Sometimes called "camp meeting" style, there is little ritual and no high church liturgy. Every Sunday at 8:30 am in the Sanctuary, we gather for worship that is natural and laid back. We lift our voices in praise as we sing the old-time favorite hymns of the church. There is a time for the congregation to select hymns during an old-fashioned hymn-sing. Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday in an informal style. We all join hands at the end of the service as we go out to serve God and our community.

Traditional Worship

sundays 11:00 am
What is Traditional worship

Traditional Worship draws on rituals and traditions that date back to the very beginning of the Christian Church 2,000 years ago. Every Sunday at 11:00 am we gather in the Sanctuary for worship that is steeped in the liturgy and rites of the ancient church. We lift our voices in praise as we sing the traditional hymns of the church. Music is offered in a classical sacred style by the Chancel Choir, handbell groups, vocal and instrumental ensembles, and the Children's Choir and is accompanied by piano and organ. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

The Bridge (Modern) Worship

sundays 11:00 am
What is The Bridge?

The Bridge Modern Worship gathers every Sunday morning at 11:00 am for worship. Our worship space is inside of Moody Methodist Church, in the Christian Life Center (look for the Gym). Our service is an hour long and includes a blend of modern music, a thoughtful sermon, and Holy Communion each week.

Spanish Worship

sundays 11:00 am
What is Spanish worship

The Hispanic Ministry of Moody Methodist Church, with the purpose to proclaim the God of our life for the Hispanic community of Galveston, meets every Sunday at 11:00 am to share the Word of God in Spanish with celebration of the sacraments, biblical readings, songs of praise, intercessory prayer, and thanksgiving.
